Description
Labrys+ is an immersive soundscape. It is a four-part dance that isn’t offered to be experienced visually. The audience sits in the middle. Each and all are surrounded by a composition of spatial sound moving geometrically with dancers. Visitors will be asked to blindfold their eyes upon entrance and will be escorted to the seats of their choice. Duration of work: ~ 50 ‘. The context of Labrys+ is adapted for visitors with visual disabilities.
Artist / Company biography
Artist duo IevaKrish consists of internationally working dancers/choreographers and set designers Ieva Gaurilčikaitė-Sants and Krišjānis Sants. Krišjānis studied dance in Latvian Academy of Culture and P.A.R.T.S, but Ieva acquired her professional education in Scotland SSCD (2015) and Israel (2016). Both artists have also completed master-level studies in scenography at the Latvian Art Academy. Their practice uses a hybrid of choreography and scenography to create immersive and reactive experiences with their audience, and they work in a wide range of forms and media – from direct guided experiences between artist and an individual audience member, to elaborate interactive events that bring larger audience groups together in spectacles of dance, food, collective massage and breathing workshops.
Their works have been presented in Second Riga International Biennial of Contemporary Art, Survival Kit, Sansusī, Time to Dance and Valmiera Summer Theatre Festival (LV), Tanzmainz (DE), Spectaculare (CZ), SPOT 2020 (LT). In 2021 IevaKrish received Latvian Dance Award as Best Choreographers in 2019-2020. Krišjānis also received Spēlmaņu nakts Latvian Theatre Award for his performance Whirl as the Best Contemporary Dance Event of 2015.
Both artists have co-founded and run a performance art company TUVUMI that aims to develop the experimental stage arts environment in Latvia and to create a shared art environment both between Latvia and the Baltic as well as the Baltics and Europe.
